"The Shame"
With Cynthia, I took a journey that can be summarized through the seasons: last spring
of 2023 in the Southern Hemisphere, we had our first conversations, igniting meetings,
enthusiasm, and the desire to work together. We visited each other, meeting in cafes and
in her studio. The first sketches stayed in my notebook, myriad options remaining in
memory.
My spring turned to autumn with a work trip to the Northern Hemisphere. We continued
in different seasons, communicating via email. Summer arrived, and we met again in hot
Buenos Aires, resuming our activities, taking vacations, and thinking about each other as
we exchanged recommendations for ideas, readings, and films.
Until, in our shared autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, those reflections took shape. In
Cynthia's case in the most extraordinary way with her paintings: the direction, set design,
and scenes she created. Then the formats, body arrangements, colors, shadows, fabrics,
and gazes through her brushstrokes. The project gained momentum, taking flight, while
the blood-colored curtains of spaces like confessionals, dressing rooms, and small
refuges for contemplation fell to add the necessary drama to this grand idea she had for
her show. I am amazed at what our collection of words, sketches, coffees, lunches,
readings, references, and gossip has transformed into: the conversations of friendship
and work germinated and grew into these compelling and commanding works.
We are now in winter, with the entire journey almost completed. Spring, the season
which brought us together and keeps us intact will return. Even though in Miami, where
this staggering ensemble arrives, it will be our shared autumn, our season of
consummation.
